Time for Wine

Posted on

Sunday is the 4th of July and in honor of Independence day we found a great article about the perfect wine for this occasion on intowine.com.  This perfect wine is Madeira. According to IntoWine Madeira is the wine that was used by the Founding Father’s to Toast the Declaration of Independence.  Also, George Washington drank a pint of Madeira every day for dinner. It is also very convenient because Madeira cannot be harmed by the hot sun and the July heat. IntoWine warns that it is very important to drink TRUE Madeira from the island of Madeira and not confuse it with wines that are made in America for cooking. They recommend the Broadbent 10 year Malmsey Madeira at about $44 a bottle or the Broadbent 5 year Reserve at $25. Once you’ve opened a bottle, it never goes off. It also goes well with any food. Great with hamburgers, even with pickles!” – Bartholomew Broadbent, CEO, Broadbent Selections, San Francisco

‘S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical

Posted on

Plan to head to ‘S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical now until September, presented by Pittsburgh’s CLO Cabaret. This is an all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the brilliant and breathtaking music and lyrics of brothers George and Ira Gershwin.

Five mini-musicals take audiences on a ride to the different places, times and styles that made the Gershwin brothers the most successful songwriting team in musical history. First it’s New York City in 1916 and Paris in the 1930s, followed by Hollywood in the ’40s and New Orleans in the ’50s. ’S Wonderful pays a nostalgic tribute to the incomparable songbook of George and Ira Gershwin, featuring nearly 30 classic hits such as “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Shall We Dance,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Rhapsody in Blue.”
