Susanna Mälkki, conductor; Leila Josefowicz, violin. Stravinsky: Scherzo Fatastique; Sibelius: Symphony No. 7; Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No. 1; Sibelius: Finlandia. Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki makes her PSO debut with the music of fellow countryman Jean Sibelius in his single-movement Seventh Symphony and his most well-known piece, Finlandia. Stravinsky displays colorful orchestration in Scherzo Fantastique. MacArthur Award-winning violinist Leila Josefowicz returns for a virtuosic performance of Shostakovich’s searing Violin Concerto No. 1.
