There are lots of good things going on if the aromas and flavors sync up, though it doesn’t seem much like Cabernet.”………145.99


DAOU PASO ROBLES’17 – “Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is very promising, revealing a youthfully primary bouquet of currants and plums that’s already integrated its new oak. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, richly structured and generous, with a sun-kissed core of fruit and a dry, fine-grained finish. A cuvée that includes purchased fruit, this is typically a great value. I’m looking forward to seeing it from bottle.”…….34.99

DAVIS ESTATE NAPA“PHASE V”’13 “How can you miss with a wine that sounds like a NASA rocket class? All of Philippe Melka’s powers were brought to bear to craft this beauty, Davis’ ultimate “statement” Cabernet. DOMINUS NAPA’11 –Christian Moueix and his team at Dominus have experience with rainy vintages in Bordeaux. They also farm a site that is particularly well adapted to draining excess water. So they produced a remarkable 2011, a late vintage challenged by rain close to harvest, It’s proof that a challenge met can create something sublime-like this floral, red raspberry-scented vintage of Dominus. It’s tense chord of flavor incorporating green herb, tobbacco, casis and raspberry in a lasting harmony. The sophistocated structure suggests it will age with grace, while the gentleness of that structure will make it accessible along the way.”………299.99



FORMAN NAPA’13  – “A beautiful wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and the rest tiny proportions of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. Opaque ruby/purple with beautiful blueberry and black raspberry fruit moving toward cassis on the palate, it is plush, medium to full-bodied, well-delineated, juicy and succulent. This is another terrific 2013. This one was aged 22 months in barrel, but 60% was new oak, and it was never fined prior to bottling.”…………204.99

A brilliant wine from Boisset, it exhibits notes of blackberry and cassis, truffle, chocolate and spice bow. Layered and multidimensional with terrific opulence and purity, this is a “wow” wine, and while drinkable now.”…………364.99

SHAFER “ONE POINT FIVE” NAPA’15 –A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five Stags Leap has an earthy/meaty nose, featuring notions of tar and charcuterie over crème de cassis and baked plums plus a hint of licorice. Very big, full-bodied and packed with black fruit preserves in the mouth, it has a chewy backbone and lively lift to the earthy/savory finish.”………194.99

SPOTTSWOODE NAPA’14 – “This slightly opaque and ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Spottswoode is Excellent! It opens with a very aromatic red raspberry and black cherry bouquet with a hint of cranberry. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, nicely balanced and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a very tasty black cherry and black currant blend with notes of oak and minerality. The finish is rather dry and its building tannins are substantial, but do not get in the way. As a matter of fact, this was the longest finish of the year.”………304.99

STEELE LAKE COUNTY “RED HILLS” CABERNET SAUVIGNON’15 – Deftly balanced, rich and layered, with a mix of mocha- and herb-laced currant, plum, herb and light cedar flavors. Very impressive for the long, pure finish.”…..42.99

TREFETHEN NAPA’16 – Over the years, Trefethen Family Vineyards has mastered the art of producing rich wines without sacrificing balance. The 2016 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent example of the winery does best.  This wine is nicely structured. Its aromas and flavors of refined black fruit and oak accents.”………94.99

TRIONE ALEXANDER “BLOCK 21”’10  While the producer holds back its heartier reds in bottle before release, this complex, rich wine will keep going with more cellaring, giving it a chance to further hone its already-developed layers of leather, earth and backbone of black fruit. Smooth and velvety, it retains sizable tannin weight on the finish.”…………………134.99

TRIONE ALEXANDER “BLOCK 21”’12 – “This classically styled red with 9% Merlot and 2% each of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot impresses with perfumed violet and its soft, smooth and succulent black cherry and currant flavor. Approachable and round, it has cedar and mocha undertones that make it memorable and compelling.………… 124.99

TRIONE SONOMA “BLOCK 21”’13 – “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Block 21 from Alexander Valley has a dense ruby/purple color, crisp, tart acids, ripe tannin, but a relatively compact, narrowly constructed mouthfeel. This could use more flesh and expansiveness, but what is there is pure and attractive.”………119.99
