DUCKHORN RUSSIAN RIVER “MIGRATION”14 –Rich and complex, with well-defined peach, pear, tangerine and melon flavors that are enticing and expansive. Oak on the finish nudges this in the direction of cedar and smoke, distracting from the texture. A fun ride overall.”……45.99

FLOWERS SONOMA’14 –Light straw hue. Expressive aromas of citrus zest and lime-blossom are highlighted by honeysuckle and wet flint. The palate is heightened by a compelling, site-specific minerality, textural salinity, and precise acidity that carry brilliantly through the finish. A true expression of both the grape and its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.”……74.99

FORT ROSS SONOMA’11  –  Fort Ross Winery is nestled on a sunny coastal ridge, overlooking the Pacific Ocean a mile below.  Their “True Sonoma Coast” vineyard is one of the closest, if not the closest, to the ocean in all of California.  This is a great Chardonnay if you are looking for a style somwhere between the over-oaked and the steely style.  It’s all about the gorgeous fruit in this one, Highly recommended.”……..65.99

FRANCISCAN NAPA/CARNEROS “CUVEE SAUVAGE”’12
A classic Napa Valley Chardonnay, this is smooth, rich, balanced and well composed. Flowery aromas of honeysuckle open the way for lemon curd and ripe apple to compete with a depth of crème brûlée character that provides plenty of complexity, with additional accents of honey and spice.”………….45.99

FROG’S LEAP NAPA’15 –  On several recent visits to Frog’s Leap, John Williams has detoured me from queries about Cabernet and Zinfandel to taste his Chardonnay. He and his team have been developing a new strategy: pick at the underside of ripeness; whole-cluster press; settle for two days, then rack into new oak barrels; allow the fermentation to begin on its own and reach its peak (four or five days); then, with half the sugar remaining in the grapes, rack the wine to lined cement tanks to finish whatever it’s going to do, undisturbed for another nine months. Up until now, I’ve been more curious about his quixotic focus on Chardonnay from Napa Valley, of all places, than about the wine itself. This vintage comes from Truchard and a nearby vineyard on Stanly Road, picking up on the best aspects of Carneros fruit—desert citrus cooled by the fog. It’s tart with baked lemon and grapefruit flavors, zesty in the middle and then richer in the end. The finish tastes like salted caramels, but it’s completely savory…and brisk. Williams’s goal is to make a great Chardonnay that’s expressive of its origins in Napa Valley and his 2015 may give you a new perspective on that possibility.”…….63.99

GRAFTER CALIFORNIA’15 – “Ripe, concentrated fruit flavors of lemon curd, apple and pear are showcased on the palate, with a hint of baking spices. Partial barrel-fermentation and sur-lie ageing provide a creamy texture, while the balance of fruit produced in stainless steel helps to provide focus and vibrancy. The final result is a wine that will please both those that appreciate richer Chardonnays and those that look for pure fruit expression.”…….34.99
