CARLISE RUSSIAN RIVER “MONTAFI RANCH’14  The 2014 Zinfandel Montafi Ranch is the biggest of Carlisle’s three Russian River Zinfandels. The Montafi is marked by a distinctive eucalyptus note, a core of huge, jammy fruit and striking inner perfume. Exotic and ample in all of its facets, the Montafi Ranch is without question one of the most expressive wines in this lineup. Montafi is planted with approximately 87% Zinfandel and 13% Mixed Blacks.”……95.99

CARLISLE SONOMA “PAPERA”’15 – “A killer effort is the 2015 Zinfandel Papera Ranch, from a vineyard planted in 1934, and made from 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. This is a good-sized wine, given its 15.4% alcohol, but like all of Mike Officer’s wines, the alcohol never shows. Moreover, he clearly gives the fruit plenty of attention so that it can strut its ripeness and full-bodied character, given the fact that he rarely uses more than 20-25% new French oak, and of course, the wines are bottled with no clarification by fining or filtering.”…………94.99

COSENTINO LODI “CIGAR”’15 – Wood smoke and black pepper aromas start this full-bodied wine out with a bang. Lively, spicy blackberry and black cherry flavors contribute richness on the palate, accented with toasty, savory, meaty overtones. FROG’S LEAP NAPA’15 –  Like any good zin, this wine needs a lot of time in a decanter to show its best. When first opened, it’s bright, sappy and a little bitter in its red fruit. A few hours later, it’s rounded by dark berry flavors, the fruit racy and fresh. It’s still clean and fresh the next day, with lovely crunchy red fruit—better, in fact, than the day before. Frog’s Leap consistently produces a classic Napa Valley zinfandel, farming organically and without irrigating the vines.”…….63.99

RIDGE SONOMA GEYERSVILLE “50th VINTAGE”’15 – “It’s hard to believe that Ridge’s iconic Zinfandel Geyserville celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in 2015. Today, the wine is quite deep, powerful and unyielding. Of course, the low yields of the vintage have a lot to do with that. I am not surprised winemaker Eric Baugher decided to give the 2015 a few more months in barrel, as there is a lot of stuffing here. The interplay of fruit, aromatics and acidity is compelling. Red cherry jam, pomegranate, rose petal and woodsmoke infuse the finish.”…………79.99
