BALLETTO RUSSIAN RIVER “TERESA’S UNOAKED”’14 – “The first sip shows that this is definitely not what you’d expect of a popular “California Chard.” It’s much leaner and quite lemony, more Chablis style than Californian, with lemon notes running through the palate, followed by pear and peach. Overall, the wine is very light and almost astringent, with citrusy acidity persevering through into the finish. Its acidity makes it a good food wine.”……47.99

FORT ROSS SONOMA’11  –  Fort Ross Winery is nestled on a sunny coastal ridge, overlooking the Pacific Ocean a mile below.  Their “True Sonoma Coast” vineyard is one of the closest, if not the closest, to the ocean in all of California.  This is a great Chardonnay if you are looking for a style somwhere between the over-oaked and the steely style.  It’s all about the gorgeous fruit in this one, Highly recommended.”……..70.99

LANDMARK CALIFORNIA “OVERLOOK”’12 This new Chardonnay from Landmark isn’t a Sonoma appelation wine like last year’s: It’s made from 83% Sonoma, 11% Monterey, and 6% Santa Barbara grapes.  The overall impact is pleasant, but uninspiring. Aggressively meaty on the nose, it lets some fig, peach, mango, and banana character through after a bit, but only after putting up a fight. As it warms, the wine exudes more of a melon character, reminding me a bit of prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe slices.”………….59.99

In Burgundy, the subregion of Chablis, while typically employing the use of older oak barrels, produces a similar bright and acid-driven style. A creamy, highly expressive finish rounds things out in style. The Bear Point is made from the ‘Peter Michael’ Chardonnay clone, which is believed to have originated on this property!.”…………….29.99

TALBOTT SANTA LUCIA  “SLEEPY HOLLOW”’12  –  Pale gold. Poached pear, Meyer lemon, buttered toast and white flowers on the deeply perfumed nose. Smooth, open-knit orchard fruit and orange flavors stain the palate, picking up a smoky nuance with aeration. Shows excellent clarity and punch on the mineral-tinged finish, which leaves suave floral and citrus fruit notes behind.”…….64.99

TOR CARNEROS’18 – The 2018 Carneros Chardonnay from Tor is absolutely sublime. This barrel selection is sourced from three historic Chardonnay vineyards, The Beresini Vineyard, Hyde Vineyard and Durell vineyard, each adding their own special character. As far as the wine itself, this instantly opens to seductive aromatics of poached pear, lemon oil, pineapple, crème brûlée, honeysuckle and lovely mineral undertones that all soar from the glass. On the palate this is beautifully textured with a wonderful Meursault-like richness, while at the same time showing outstanding balance and focus through the sultry finish. This is a simply marvelous Chardonnay from Tor that is delicious now, but should also evolve nicely over the next few years.”………69.99

WALTER HANSEL RUSSIAN RIVER “ALYCE” CUVEE’13   Named after Steve Hansel’s mother and my favorite of his Chardonnays, the 2013 Chardonnay Cuvée Alyce is made from the Hyde and Hudson selections of the Old Wente clone blended with Clone 95. It sees 40% new oak, and comes across as the richest, most intense of the Hansel Chardonnays. Clean, pure, white peach, honeysuckle and crème brûlée notes are followed by a touch of brioche and subtle oak. This is a beautifully crafted, medium to full-bodied, rich, stunningly proportioned wine.”……89.99
