American Wines Red Zinfandel

BOGLE LODI’13 – “ Deep, rich blackberry and red licorice compete for attention, enlivened by aromas of pepper, cinnamon and fresh pencil shavings. Some apparent alcohol is distracting. Soft and round but with good acidity and a mineral core that makes the wine feel lively on the palate. A medium length, flavorful finish with soft tannins and no hint of sourness.”…….32.99

CARLISLE SONOMA “PAPERA”’15 – “A killer effort is the 2015 Zinfandel Papera Ranch, from a vineyard planted in 1934, and made from 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. This is a good-sized wine, given its 15.4% alcohol, but like all of Mike Officer’s wines, the alcohol never shows. Moreover, he clearly gives the fruit plenty of attention so that it can strut its ripeness and full-bodied character, given the fact that he rarely uses more than 20-25% new French oak, and of course, the wines are bottled with no clarification by fining or filtering.”…………99.99

CHARTER OAK SONOMA “MONTE ROSS0’06………..79.99

CHATEAU MONTELENA NAPA’15 – Medium ruby in the glass with generous aromas of raspberries and ripe blackberries. Bright berry flavors follow with a delicious blend of raspberries and blackberries along with dusty earth and hints of cedar. The body is on the light side of medium with zippy acidity and drying tannins. The finish is medium in length, with a bit of heat, and lingering tannins.”………85.99

EBERLE PASO ROBLES’16 ………59.99

FROG’S LEAP NAPA’15 –  Like any good zin, this wine needs a lot of time in a decanter to show its best. When first opened, it’s bright, sappy and a little bitter in its red fruit. A few hours later, it’s rounded by dark berry flavors, the fruit racy and fresh. It’s still clean and fresh the next day, with lovely crunchy red fruit—better, in fact, than the day before. Frog’s Leap consistently produces a classic Napa Valley zinfandel, farming organically and without irrigating the vines.”…….68.99

JOSEPH JEWELL DRY CREEK-SONOMA “GRIST VINEYARD”’15 – “From a sloping hillside at 1,000-feet in elevation, this is a beautiful vineyard-designate and ambassador for the variety: shy in fruit at first, which only allows its floral, earthy aspects of ash and rock to shine. Black pepper and leather boost an array of tangy cherry, raspberry and plum that remains tart and fresh.”……81.99

McMANIS FAMILY LODI’17 – McManis Zinfandel pours a dark purple with aromas of fresh red currants and strawberries, which you would expect from this young wine. Flavors are big and juicy with bright red fruits complimented by soft, supple tannins.”………33.99

STEELE MENDOCINO “PACINI”’15 – Engaging and nicely oaky but also well structured, this full-bodied wine has dense layers of ripe fruity spicy flavors and almost chewy tannins. It is concentrated, deep and with a lengthy finish.”………42.99

TERRA D’ORO AMADOR’16 – Hints of black pepper, clove and cedar waft from the glass, followed by ripe and generous fruit flavors on the palate. This wine is dry, well balanced and has a mouthwatering texture stiffened a bit by light tannins.”………34.99
