Presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony Association, Music 101 is a lunchtime lecture series of informal presentations, providing the community with opportunities to hear personal insights from PSO musicians, conductors and key personnel.

Slatkin Conducts Copland’s Appalachian Spring
Friday, November 19th 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, November 21st 2010 at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $17.50 – $80.00
Visit Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts to see Leonard Slatkin, conductor; Michael Rusinek, clarinet, Bernstein: Symphonic Suite from On the Waterfront; Tower: Concerto for Clarinet; Coplan: Appalachian Spring. Principal Guest Conductor Leonard Slatkin conducts a program of vivid American music. Bernstein’s Oscar nominated score for the film On the Waterfront is a classic example of music illustrating a story. PSO Principal Clarinet Michael Rusinek performs Joan Tower’s Clarinet Concerto. The program closes with Copland’s beloved ballet, Appalachian Spring, including variations on the familiar Shaker theme, “Simple Gifts.”

Light Up Night®/Light Up Weekend
Friday, November 19th 2010 – Saturday, November 20th 2010
With 2010 being an important milestone for the Golden Triangle, the PDP is planning a one-of-a-kind grand celebration!

Light Up Night® – Light Up Weekend, sponsored by Duquesne Light, will blend the traditional elements of Light Up Night’s past—including a huge bridge party and spectacular fireworks finale—with two premier events sure to dazzle and delight—a Victorian Horse Drawn Carriage Parade and Celebrate Santa Stage Show in Market Square.
Activities will be held throughout the Golden Triangle.
