Best Valentine’s Day Wines
It’s Valentine’s Day and whether you love or hate it, today is all about love! And nothing goes better with love than a nice bottle of wine! So whether you’re cuddling up with your significant other or just hanging out with friends, here’s a fantastic list of wines to share on this special holiday – put together by Amy Reiley of Gayot:
Terra Valentine, 2007 Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
This big, sexy, serious wine offers chocolate, spice and everything nice. Up front, its flavors are fruit-driven but then its dark, earthy notes emerge toward the back of the palate and linger on the finish. A wine this masculine deserves manly foods like buffalo short ribs or rosemary-crusted lamb shank.
Rating: 14/20, Price: $40
Quady Winery, 2009 Elysium
From its heart-adorned bottle to its lengthy, floral finish, this wine spells romance. Serve it slightly chilled at the end of the meal, with dessert or as a perfect, liquid sweet. The wine’s dried flower and honeyed sweetness will work well with everything from raspberry cheesecake to flourless, chocolate torte.
Rating: 13/20, Price: $25
O’Brien Estate, 2009 Flirtation Rosé
A pretty pink made from Merlot grapes, Flirtation is a dry rosé with teasing strawberry and pomegranate flavors. With bright acidity and nice length, the wine is food-friendly and pairs well with simple seafood dishes, roast chicken or cheese fondue for two.
Rating: 13.5/20, Price: $30
