American Sirah/Syrah

ARNOT-ROBERTS SONOMA COAST SYRAH’15 – “Made with fruit from a selection of vineyards across the Sonoma Coast, this is a restrained and elegant Californian Syrah packed with black fruit flavours and an earthy complexit. Fresh and bright; damson and plum fruit on the palate; firm tannins on the finish. The fruit for this wine comes from a series of cool-climate vineyards on the Sonoma Coast.”…….56.99

CHARLES SMITH “K VINTNERS” WAHLUKE SLOPE “THE HIDDEN” SYRAH’11 – “Aged in 100% new 500 liter barrels, the 2011 Syrah The Hidden Northridge Vineyard is an incredible Syrah that gives up pure aromas and flavors of blackberry, ground pepper, minerality, and dried spices and hints of vanilla in its full-bodied, elegant and seamless profile. Slightly more mid-weight than prior vintages, yet with beautiful concentration and solid mid-palate depth.”……80.99

DONELAN SONOMA “CUVEE CHRISTINE” SYRAH’13 – “A bold, explosive wine, the 2013 Syrah Cuvée Christine possesses striking, vivid aromatics, pulsating energy and exceptional balance. Rose petal, blood orange, pomegranate, exotic spice and herbs are all bright and beautifully delineated in the glass.”……63.99

DONELAN SONOMA “CUVEE KELTIE” SYRAH’13 – “The 2013 Syrah Cuvée Keltie is a wine built around three single-vineyard choices – Walker Vine Hill, Obsidian and Richards. One hundred percent of the stems are used during fermentation. No new oak is employed, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered after 20 months. Terrific aromatics of black olive tapenade, sweet blackberry and cassis, licorice, truffle and spice all jump from the glass of this full-bodied, tightly structured, spicy and very layered wine that builds incrementally and finishes with extravagant richness and rather big structure.”……113.99

DONELAN SONOMA “KOBLER FAMILY VINEYARD” SYRAH’13 – “The family of Syrahs at Donelan are all stunning, and several have a Côte-Rôtie-like personality. Certainly that’s true of the 2013 Syrah Kobler FamilyVineyard, which is 90% Syrah co-fermented with 10% Viognier and aged in about 7% new oak for 20 months prior to bottling. From a cool site in Green Valley, this wine displays sweet blackberry, black cherry, white peach and apricot notes that soar from the glass in the uplifted aromatics. The wine hits the palate with flesh, a Côte-Rôtie-like elegance and complexity, and a medium to full-bodied, long finish.”……73.99

DONELAN SONOMA “WALKER VINE HILL” SYRAH’13 – “This pitch black colored Syrah from Donelan is very good. It opens with a mild blackberry and black pepper like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic, juicy and savory at the same time. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and mild mineral blend with notes of plum and black licorice. I also detected some hints of black pepper, blueberry and oak towards the end. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This very good Syrah get better the longer it is open.”……87.99

FOPPIANO ESTATE RUSSIAN RIVER PETITE SIRAH’15 – “Aromas of blackberry and blueberry spice dominate the glass, with hints of floral jasmine. This wine develops across your palate with cassis and integrated oak spice. Concentrated fruit, balanced acidity and mature tannins.”……………30.99

HERMAN STORY CALIFORNIA “NUTS & BOLTS” SYRAH’16 – Moving to the 2016s and a wine that always delivers, the 2016 Nuts & Bolts has lots of White Hawk character in its white pepper, cedar, underbrush and black and blue fruits. Made from 100% Syrah aged in 80% new wood, this beauty is concentrated, full-bodied, and silky, with no hard edges.”………80.99

J. LOHR PASO ROBLES “TOWER ROAD”’15 – Intriguing, deep and dark on the nose, this bottling offers aromas of root beer, black-cherry sauce and vanilla. Framed by upright yet polished tannins on the palate, fresh flavors of blackberry and blueberry are lifted by vanilla spice. This is an easy-to-like, yet heavy-duty, wine.”………35.99

JELLY ROLL SANTA YNEZ’07 – “An equal part blend of two great Central Coast vineyards, Larner and Stolpman, the 2007 Syrah reveals a dense plum/purple color, a big, rich bouquet of black fruits (plums and cherries), black olives, pepper, and bouquet garni, luscious fruit, velvety tannins, and a medium to full-bodied, plush finish.”…51.99

LEWIS CELLARS NAPA “ALEC’S BLEND” SYRAH BLEND’16 – “The 2016 Alec’s Blend checks in as a blend of 61% Syrah, 38% Merlot, and the rest Petite Sirah. This deep ruby/purple-colored effort shines on all accounts and offers classy notes of blueberries, ripe black cherries, white flowers, graphite, and flowery, peppery spice. It’s medium to full-bodied, has beautiful richness and depth, yet stays lively, pure, and light on its feet. It’s a beautiful wine.”……………83.99

NEYERS NAPA “HUDSON”’02 – “A dark, rich, heady stew of a wine, right down to the beef, carrots and onions. The range of flavors takes in game meat, exotic spices and beef carpaccio nuances, finishing with a splash of cedar and stewed tomato.”………76.99

RAMEY SONOMA “SHANEL VINEYARDS” SYRAH’06 – “There’s lots of spices (white and black pepper) but also plenty of grapey dark berry, red licorice, herb, mineral and cedar notes. Very complex, full-blown and well-balanced, becoming even more complex on the finish, where the flavors unfold to reveal subtle nuances.”…86.99
